Frequently Black performance and skating artists are required to train and work both within a white western aesthetic and within white‐centric producing structures. As well, even when the work addresses relevant Black topics and is shared with a predominantly African American audience, current preparation and producing methods (post‐show talkbacks, Q&As, etc.) are rooted in Euro-Centric based methodologies. This training is designed to engage participants' full selves in the process of acknowledging, addressing, and healing from wounds resulting from the trauma of racial oppression and always existing/living within these Euro-Centric based structures. It affirms and celebrates the treasures and complexities that have and continue to characterize the histories and present day experiences of so many different Black communities in the US. It accomplishes this through a mix of dialogue and engaging the wisdom of the body in movement.
